Let’s be honest, working from home has its advantages. But being home also makes it easier to procrastinate, especially when you miss your favourite colleague and don’t have the office buzzing around you.

Why do we find ourselves procrastinating when we work from home? The reason could be that you have a hard time concentrating and feel overwhelmed, or that being home makes you feel out of whack, you don’t have a designated work space or you miss your co-workers… All these new challenges can turn your productivity into procrastination very easily. But do not fear, we have some tips for you to bring back your productivity at home!

Tip 1: Make a list

Writing your goals down and making a list of your priorities for the day will be the first step. Try to start a task and stick to it until it’s done before jumping on to a new one. Crossing the goals from your list through the day will give you a sense of achievement and accomplishment. We love a good list!

Tip 2: Resist the distractions

This one is probably the hardest because we all know home is your safe space and where you feel the most comfortable. So what’s the harm of a quick episode of your favourite show or an extra long trip to the toilet? Well, time flies when you have fun and without realising it, you will have spent an hour doing non related work tasks and having to rush through your day feeling unproductive.

Tip 3: Plan your breaks

Planning your day is great, but you also need to make sure you have some breaks thrown in your calendar so you can recharge and relax. Just as you would have a coffee break with your favourite colleague in the office, allow yourself to step way from your computer and take a break. Resetting your mind is crucial for productivity and avoiding procrastination.

Tip 4: Don’t overthink it

Some task can be daunting to start. But how great does it feel when you are done with it?! Tackle the hardest work task first thing in the morning if you can, so you can cross it off your list and feel amazing for the rest of the day. This will give you motivation to accomplish the rest of your work. You can also set a timer to feel more in control of your time.

Tip 5: Catch up with your colleagues

What makes us productive in the office is the environment, energy and accountability we get from others around us. Working alone at home can make us loose our motivation and sense of accountability. You might also miss your supportive team. So don’t be shy on setting some meetings and catching up with your team members to discuss your struggles and support needs. When working from home, you don’t have to feel isolated. A quick chat with a co-worker can give you a motivation boost and refrain you from putting Netflix on.
